Hello 2006!

What? It’s 2007? You mean we didn’t even post a single news item in all of 2006?! Well, um, you see, there’s a very simple explanation: We spent the last year working on a career change, from fronting a two-man band to the more nuanced role of back-up singers. After 11 solid months of developing and fine-tuning our doo-wops and weedle-eep-boops, we had a bit of a coming-out party in December, thanks to our good friend and bassist/producer extraordinaire Mikael Jacobson. Recognizing a perfect union of singing styles, Mikael teamed the former Chip & Drifty — now known as The Chip & Drifty Singers — with rising star Micah Ramos, for a heartfelt holiday serenade. You can download it here. And since we’re so late posting it, you can consider it a very early holiday gift for 2007.

In other news, Chip & Drifty took a trip to the desert in December to write some music. Weird thing is, hanging out in a luxurious house on the edge of a golf course drinking wine seems to have worked. We actually finished a song, which means we’re officially working on the next album. Next news update in 2009!

So this is the first “real” news update, following a couple of practice rounds, which you’ll find below. Welcome to our new site. How do you like it? We’re open to any and all suggestions, as long as we agree with them. If we don’t, though, you won’t be asked back, so make ‘em good. We’re planning to put some podcasts up shortly, along with plenty more song samples, a photo gallery and more. Oh, and an online bakery, complete with cyber-pie. And when you get a sec, feel free to check out our other site — the one with blindingly pleasant colors — at cdbaby.com. If you haven’t purchased a copy of our newest album, you can order it there. If you have, you can still check it out and, who knows, maybe write a really super-positive, swell review of “So Fine a Lady.” But only if you want. No pressure.

Okay, so this is really more Chip & Drifty trivia than actual news. We thought you might like to know that that navigation entry/news headline — Oh. — was one of the leading contenders for the name of the last album. It lost out, initially, to “If You Think This Means I’m Paying for the Hookers, You’ve Got Another Thing Coming,” which itself lost out to “So Fine a Lady.”

As far as real band news, there’s not a lot going on right now since we’ve been working on getting this site and the cdbaby.com page up. We’re planning time soon to get together and write some new material — although we’ve got plenty of stuff right now for the next album, plans for which are in the works. We’ve even got some album names picked out. You got any you’d like to throw in the hopper? Let us know.

That’s right folks, we’ve taken our first steps into the world of dynamically generated Chip & Drifty News (currently in the testing phase), complete with an archives section and a search engine. We will soon be a gargantuan, state-of-the-art music-producing entity with nuclear-weapons capabilities. So no sudden moves.
